I recently rewatched Vikram. The first time I had watched it in the big screen, I couldn’t understand some dialogues in the movie, as I’m not that fluent in Tamil. The second time in watched it, in the TV, I watched in my mother tongue, Kannada. Tbh, it was easily the best dubbed movie I watched in Kannada.
In theatres, due to the runtime and confusing screenplay, I felt the movie wasn’t that engaging. On rewatch, I knew what to expect. So I followed the storyline and execution properly. Towards the end, I felt like Vikram was a perfect class-mass entertainer.
The hero of the film were Lokesh Kannagaraj and Anirudh Ravichander. Lokesh has superbly directed the movie. The story isn’t of much relevance. Still, for an action movie, it’s pretty good. The way he has given buildup to every character is simply too good.
On rewatch, I understood why he took so much time for world building. These characters would appear in the further installments too. Especially, Amar would have an important role. Would be interesting to see the inclusion of Dilli in Vikram’s world. And of course, Rolex sir would be of different level.
Anirudh simply hit it out of the park with his background music. Be it Rolex theme, Vikram’s eagle is coming or Theme song, Santhanam’s entry song, Pablo Escobar music, or Amar’s entry theme, Wasted bgm, he nailed all those. But my favourite was the integration of Dilli theme to the world of Vikram. He gave arguably his career best performance as a music director.
Vikram is surely not overrated for me.
