Kendrapara is a district located in the Indian state of Odisha. It is known for its rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and natural beauty. One of the best places to visit in Kendrapara is the Bhitarkanika National Park. Here are some details about this popular attraction:
Bhitarkanika National Park: It is a renowned wildlife sanctuary and national park in Kendrapara. The park is famous for its mangrove forests, vast wetlands, and diverse flora and fauna. It is home to various species of wildlife, including saltwater crocodiles, spotted deer, wild boars, monkeys, and numerous bird species. The park also offers boat rides through the mangrove creeks, which provide an opportunity to observe the wildlife up close.
Gahirmatha Beach: Situated near the Bhitarkanika National Park, Gahirmatha Beach is known for its pristine beauty and tranquility. It is considered one of the largest nesting grounds for Olive Ridley sea turtles in the world. The sight of these turtles laying eggs and their subsequent hatching is a fascinating experience for visitors. The beach also offers scenic views and a serene environment for relaxation.
Kanika Palace: Located in Rajkanika, the Kanika Palace is a historic attraction that reflects the royal heritage of Kendrapara. The palace was once the residence of the rulers of the Kanika estate. It showcases a blend of Odishan and European architectural styles and houses a museum that exhibits artifacts, photographs, and documents related to the royal family.
Baladevjew Temple: Situated in Ichhapur, the Baladevjew Temple is a significant religious site dedicated to Lord Baladevjew (an incarnation of Lord Krishna). The temple attracts devotees from far and wide, particularly during the annual Rath Yatra (chariot festival) when the deity is taken out in a grand procession. The temple’s architecture, intricate carvings, and religious significance make it an interesting place to visit.
Apart from these attractions, Kendrapara also has several other temples, such as Hukitola Temple, Chandaneswar Temple, and Hariharadeva Temple, which are worth exploring for their architectural beauty and religious significance.
