The death’s-head hawkmoth, scientifically known as Acherontia atropos, primarily inhabits Europe and the United Kingdom. It is the most commonly recognized species referred to as the death’s-head hawkmoth.
In addition to Acherontia atropos, there are two other species within the same genus, namely Acherontia styx and Acherontia lachesis, which are native to Asia and are also referred to as death’s-head moths.
