I agree with the previous response: Rottweilers are not recommended for inexperienced dog owners.

Personally, I have a deep affection for Rotties as they are my absolute favorite breed, but they do require a lot of attention and care, especially in the beginning. Without firm yet loving treatment, they can become unruly.

Rottweilers are prone to health issues such as hip dysplasia and bone cancers. They often experience early vision loss, and their average lifespan is around 9 to 11 years at most.

Training and affection are crucial for Rottweilers. Neglecting either of these aspects can lead to aggressive behavior.

These dogs can be quite stubborn but are generally intelligent and energetic. It’s important to match their determination, outsmart them, and dedicate sufficient time to their exercise and activities.

This holds true for any dog, but with Rottweilers, proper socialization is particularly beneficial. My own Rottweilers were incredibly gentle, good-natured, and loved by the veterinarians because they defied the stereotypes associated with the breed.

Currently, I have an American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier, and she is a delightful, happy, and affectionate companion. She adores people and other dogs, and her sweet temperament surprises many.

Regarding the question of violence associated with Rottweilers, their reputation stems from their common use as guard dogs.

When people fail to train their dogs properly, they resort to cruel methods that make them hostile and aggressive towards everything and everyone.

Rottweilers, like Pit Bulls, unfortunately, have gained notoriety for attacking and severely injuring or even killing people. Their size and powerful bite make them intimidating and effective working dogs, originally bred for herding and protecting livestock.

However, when treated well and not subjected to mistreatment, Rottweilers are loyal, gentle, and loving animals.

Where I live, Rottweilers often face discrimination and are shot on sight due to their negative reputation. I wish more people would treat them as cherished pets rather than weapons.
