Goats are referred to as “caprine,” while sheep are known as “ovine.”
The term “caprine” is used because goats belong to the taxonomic sub-family Caprinae, while cows belong to the sub-family Bovinae, hence “bovine” for cows and “caprine” for goats.
In Latin, the scientific name for goats is Capra aegagrus hircus.
On the other hand, cows have the Latin name Bos primigenius. European breeds are identified as B. primigenius taurus, while Indian breeds, also known as Zebu, are classified as B. primigenius indicus.
Bos indicus for Zebu and Bos taurus for European bovines are also correct synonymous terms.
