indeed, squirrels can exhibit some fascinating behaviors! Their fast metabolisms contribute to their energetic nature and frequent running. They have a tendency to eat multiple times throughout the day. Additionally, squirrels are highly intelligent creatures and their behavior can sometimes resemble that of humans.
I recall a delightful experience my mother had in our yard. She used to feed three squirrels every morning, offering them bagels with peanut butter and jelly. These little fellows became so accustomed to the routine that if my mother happened to sleep in, a group of at least 20 squirrels would gather on our shed and tap on our kitchen window, seeking their morning treats.
On another occasion, my cat brought me a tiny one-day-old squirrel after its mother tragically passed away from electrocution. Although I took on the responsibility of raising the baby squirrel so it could eventually return to the wild, it made a surprising decision to remain by my side. I would carry it around, perched comfortably on my shoulder, and whenever people approached me, I would take it as an opportunity to educate them about squirrels. It was astonishing to discover how many misconceptions people had about these adorable creatures.
Whenever I ventured outside, I had a cue for the squirrel to find a hiding spot. I would simply say, “Zippy, hide,” and it would obediently crawl into my bra, remaining hidden until I gave it the signal to come out. This unique bond I shared with the squirrel made it one of the most remarkable and cherished fur babies I have ever had.
Squirrels truly have a way of capturing our hearts with their intriguing behaviors and individual personalities. They are a constant source of wonder and remind us of the diverse and fascinating creatures that coexist with us in our world.
