In an interview to India Today, Bobby revealed that it was he who suggested director Imtiaz Ali to cast Kareena in JAB WE MET as they have worked in Ajnabee together but Kareena was not ready to join the project.

Bobby then tried to rope in her Soldier co-star Priety ZInta who agreed to do the film but could only begin shooting it after six months.

After some days Bobby heard the news that Ashtvinayak has signed Imtiaz Ali for directing the film and Kareena is doing the film. Later it was Kareena who insisted Imtiaz Ali to cast her then-boyfriend opposite her and Shahid played the male lead in the film.
