The lifespan of a cow can vary depending on the breed and the care it receives. In dairy farms, the lifespan of cows tends to be shorter due to factors such as breed quality, decline in milk production, age, and the quality of milk. These factors determine whether a cow will be kept on the farm or not. In some cases, cows may be kept for 5-6 lactations.

Let’s consider the reproductive cycle of a female calf. It usually reaches sexual maturity or becomes pregnant within 2 years. After a pregnancy period of 10 months, it starts producing milk. After 3 months of milking, the cow becomes pregnant again and continues to produce milk for 7-8 months. Following this, the cow needs to be kept dry for at least 45 days to prepare for the next lactation cycle. This process continues until the cow’s lifespan.

In my own experience, one of the cows in my household was milked for nearly 16 lactations and lived for 23 years. Throughout its life, it produced approximately 10 liters of milk daily. This longevity and milk production were possible because we provided proper care and attention to the cow. Each lactation cycle was successful, resulting in a consistent milk supply. I hope this information helps clarify the lifespan and milk production of cows.
