“Can Chihuahuas be good with babies?”

The interaction between Chihuahuas and babies can vary from dog to dog. While some Chihuahuas are excellent with babies and small children, others may not be as suitable.

One of the challenges in the interaction between children and Chihuahuas is that young kids often unintentionally handle dogs too roughly. Due to their small size, Chihuahuas are more susceptible to injury. While a child can climb on a Great Dane without causing significant pain, the same action could potentially harm a Chihuahua. When dogs experience pain, their natural instinct may be to lash out, potentially resulting in a bite.

Personally, I have had two Chihuahuas that were extremely tolerant and friendly towards children, while the other two preferred more gentle interactions such as being softly petted.

In my opinion, the primary issue lies with babies and small children not realizing the potential for being too rough when handling Chihuahuas. (It’s important to note that Chihuahuas that exhibit aggressive or unruly behavior should not be around babies or small children at all.)
