Pit bulls have the potential to be more dangerous, but it’s important to remember that each individual dog is different.

Chihuahuas are known to bite more frequently, not only compared to pit bulls but also compared to the average large dog breed. They can be quite temperamental. I don’t mean to offend Chihuahua owners, but I believe you understand what I’m referring to.

The difference is that Chihuahua bites rarely result in serious harm or hospital visits. In most cases, if the bite breaks the skin, a Band-Aid is sufficient, and life goes on as usual. Some may even attempt legal action for “emotional damage” but success in court is unlikely as judges are usually well-informed.

Pit bulls, on the other hand, don’t bite as frequently, but when they do, the consequences can be severe. A single bite from a pit bull can be extremely damaging. They are not “reaction biters” like Chihuahuas. If a pit bull bites, it is serious. They have determined that you pose a threat and will do whatever it takes to neutralize that threat. Often, they may give a warning bite that alone can cause significant harm. If you persist, they will bite hard, hold on, and often engage in behaviors like dragging and shaking, refusing to release their grip even at their own risk. Their intention may be to eliminate you as a threat before you can harm them.

Statistically speaking, you are much more likely to be bitten by a Chihuahua than a pit bull.

However, it is also important to note that surviving an attack from a wild herd of Chihuahuas is far more likely than surviving a single but statistically rare attack from a pit bull.
