Polar bears do exhibit aggression, particularly when males compete for territory and mating rights with females. However, when considering overall aggression levels, polar bears are relatively less aggressive compared to brown bears and sloth bears.
Since polar bears primarily inhabit remote and hostile environments and have minimal encounters with humans, they lack a natural fear of humans. In such cases, if a wild polar bear comes across stranded humans, it can pose a threat and may attack.
Furthermore, female polar bears, known as sows, can display aggression towards humans when they are in a protective mode, especially when safeguarding their cubs.
