This is another common misconception perpetuated by popular media. Pterosaurs are not dinosaurs, despite being closely related to them. While both groups share a common ancestor and belong to the larger clade “Avemetatarsalia,” which includes animals closer to birds than to crocodilians, they are distinct groups.
Dinosaurs and pterosaurs were both prominent members of the Mesozoic fauna, but they have their own unique characteristics and evolutionary histories.
