Disclaimer:
*Before watching Thappad (2020 Hindi Film), I would always think Kabir was madly in love with Preeti etc etc… As an idiotic hopeless romantic.
However, after watching Thappad (2020 Hindi film), I have realized that Kabir is not an ideal man in my perspective. Thappad has made me reflect on my actions and thoughts and has made me change drastically for the better.*
Reason why I can’t fall in love with Kabir Singh despite him “loving” Preeti madly:
1) An Alcoholic & a drug addict
Yeah we all get it, it’s tough to get over Preeti. But seriously, is taking drugs & drinking like a hardcore dude going to help you? It’s only going to ruin your health condition. Yes I have been in his emotional phase of you know not getting over someone you love. I have experienced that emotion before. But I have not relied on drugs & alcohol to get myself to stop thinking about him. You just have to accept the truth and take the truth in a positive perspective. If Kabir had thought that Preeti has moved on and there will be someone better for him, then yeah it would be easier for him to move on like a mature man instead of behaving like a maniac.
2) His temper is something I cannot tolerate
I hate it when a man screams at a woman. Forget gender, I hate it when a person, be it man or woman, screams at other people or vents their anger on other people for no reason. Especially when someone talks rudely to me for no reason, I do not like it personally, but I do not want to talk back to them because there will be no difference between me & the other person. I will still be the better human being & just forgive them, try to understand them and help them in whatever mature way possible.
3) He thinks a woman needs a man very much & that they are showpieces for men
The fact that Kabir said to Preeti “Campus kaun jaanta hai tujhe? Kabir Rajdheer Singh ki bandi hai tu, that’s it.” I felt so pissed off as a female, as a woman. Like this gave me the impression that a woman is only known to be the partner/spouse of a popular or famous guy, rather than for her personality or honesty or effort etc… It does really make us feel like we are a man’s showpiece. We ladies are way more than that. We matter just as much as men do. We have feelings, we have our identity. We do not need a man to define us. We can build ourselves up out of our own effort and that will be one thing any female can and will be proud of herself for. For building themselves up on their own rather than through somebody, be it man or woman.
4) He thinks that physical violence is a way to express love… Like, wtf?!
Really? You think that physical violence is an expression of love? Well, it’s an insult, be it woman or man. A man is definitely not a man if he thinks he has the right to abuse a woman in any form, be it physically or verbally or emotionally etc. It’s not right. It’s not just about the physical marks or whatsoever, but it hurts the person emotionally and maybe for some, in ways beyond emotions. It’s an insult to a woman. I would never respect or like a man who thinks he is superior to women that he can abuse them in any way. I have seen jerks like that in real life. I have even heard a man saying he has the choice to rape a woman to me. (Wtf?!)
Well, that’s all I have to say about the character Kabir Singh. These are my personal thoughts & feelings but to each their own. You may agree with me you may not, it’s ok. We all think differently 🙂
*Although, the performance of the cast, is great! & The music is totally undeniable I love the songs.*
