Babesia motasi is primarily transmitted by ticks, similar to other Babesia infections, and it appears to mainly infect sheep.
Bovines, on the other hand, are more susceptible to B. bigemina and B. bovis infections. I couldn’t find any specific information on bovines being infected by B. motasi, but if they were bitten by the tick carrying the parasite, it’s possible that it could enter their bloodstream. Are you asking about this because the parasite was detected in their plasma?
It could be that B. motasi is too specific to certain species and cannot effectively reproduce in bovine blood cells. I apologize for the lack of additional information available on this topic.
