Pigs, similar to humans, are susceptible to illness when exposed to excessive cold and moisture. Therefore, I prioritize providing adequate shelter for our pigs. I construct sturdy straw bale houses, reinforced with heavy-duty steel netting, and secure them firmly to the ground using strong stakes. The roofs of these shelters are gently sloped to ensure water drains away from the houses. Inside, the pigs sleep on raised platforms with thick layers of barley straw, which helps keep them warm during the winter season.

By implementing this type of housing, we minimize the pigs’ need to expend energy to maintain their body temperature, allowing them to utilize their feed more efficiently. As a result, our pigs experience optimal growth rates, which directly correlates with the quality of care they receive.
