To put it simply, squirrels do not carry rabies. While it is theoretically possible for squirrels to contract rabies, the likelihood is extremely low. Squirrels would have to come into close contact with animals that are known carriers of the disease, which rarely happens. In fact, many of the animals that carry rabies are natural predators of squirrels, so squirrels instinctively avoid them. Additionally, squirrels are agile and have excellent vision, allowing them to quickly evade potential threats, including animals that may be infected with rabies. Even if a squirrel were to encounter a rabid animal, it’s more likely that the squirrel would be killed rather than becoming a carrier of the disease. Therefore, the chances of squirrels carrying and transmitting rabies are very remote.
