Can you transmit bacteria from a dog with your clothes? We got a dog and I am kind of a germ freak. And my siblings wash their hands after petting it, but they put it on their clothes and then sit on couch. Is that clean?

Heidi, my dear, let go of this Germ Freak concern and embrace the beautiful life you have ahead of you.
As an older lady who values cleanliness, I have owned dogs and cats throughout my life. Let me assure you that most animals are cleaner than many people in this world. If you were aware of what happens in numerous restaurant kitchens globally, you would think twice before dining out. With that being said, if your dog is well-groomed, properly cared for, up to date with vaccinations, and not wandering neglected on the streets, I can confidently say that your dog is clean. Just remember to regularly wash and clean your dog’s dishes.
Believe it or not, there is more bacteria on a doorknob than on most dogs. I have taken my dogs everywhere, and they even sleep in my bed with their own pillows and blankets at the foot of it. I wash these items every week. They have their own cozy beds placed around my home and even an open crate, although they never seem to use it. Sometimes my girl goes in there to hide a bone. Right now, Rosie is peacefully dozing on the couch beside me as I write this.
So don’t let your fears prevent you from touching or petting dogs. They are loyal, devoted, and can become your best friends. A dog will defend and protect its master, even if it means sacrificing its own life.
In my opinion, everyone in this world should consider themselves fortunate to have the privilege of being owned by a dog! 🐾❤️
Let go of your anxious concerns and start loving, petting, playing, and walking your family dog. You’ll be amazed at how good it feels to hug and caress that dear furry companion who simply wants to lick your hand and let you know, “Hey, don’t be afraid. I’m right here beside you, ready to protect you if needed.”
Who knows, perhaps one day you might be lucky enough to become a veterinarian and heal dogs, cats, and all other animals in need of care.
Thank you for being a responsible pet owner. And don’t forget to remind your parents to spay and neuter the family dog while ensuring they stay up to date with all necessary vaccinations, including deworming, parvo, distemper, and rabies. If your dog will be around unfamiliar dogs or traveling, consider the Bordetella vaccine for kennel cough. 🐾❤️🐾❤️
