Camels, similar to horses, originally evolved in North America. During the last Ice Age, they migrated to Asia by crossing the Bering Strait Land Bridge. However, the camels that remained in the Americas, along with many other North American megafauna, became extinct approximately 12,000 years ago. Fortunately, the camels that ventured westward were able to survive and flourish in their new habitats.
