I do believe that Rory knew from an early age that he wanted to be a musician, and more specifically a guitar player. I also believe that he felt a little like the “man of the house” after their father stayed in the north after his mother moved them to Cork when work was hard to come by. (This is all paraphrased and simplified). Further affecting his view of the world, was being taken advantage of by a manager, while his first greatly successful band Taste was gaining popularity. Rory was Catholic, very moral and had a very high work ethic. I suppose in today’s world, we want to look at a rare talent such as him, who has no stories connected to him that are negative, and attach a label or diagnosis. I have read everything I can get my hands on about the man, and find only a(n); immensely talented, polite, fan of music, generous, private, hard-working and religious man who steered his own career where he wanted it to go. In return for this, he was adored by his fans, but hounded by the business side of music, and hounded by the press, who could be very insulting and unfair to him.

I invite anyone interested in a great story, music, but most of all a great man, to look up Rory and his music, and try to find anything negative about the man. We had a musical treasure and lost him too soon. Sometimes when I talk to other fans, I say that Rory was too good for this world.
