The behavior of lions and hyenas towards humans can vary depending on the region.

In Kenya, lions have developed a strong wariness towards humans, primarily due to historical interactions with Maasai warriors who actively hunted them. Researchers, such as Andrew Ucles, have observed that lions in Kenya are particularly cautious around humans. Even when researchers engage in behaviors like chasing a pride of lions off a carcass or pretending to be an injured animal, the lions recognize humans as predators. Lions perceive our upright posture, two arms, two legs, and forward vision as indicators of our potential threat to them.

On the other hand, hyenas are generally considered nervous and timid animals. Their bravery and confidence often rely on the size of their group. In general, wild animals, including lions and hyenas, exhibit wariness towards humans and try to maintain a safe distance. This natural wariness is beneficial because if wild animals become too comfortable around humans, it can increase the likelihood of animal attacks. It is important to refrain from feeding bears, wolves, coyotes, wild boars, and other wild animals, as this can disrupt their natural behaviors and potentially lead to dangerous situations.
