Contrary to popular belief, snakes do not snuggle with humans out of affection. As cold-blooded creatures, they are drawn to the warmth emitted by our bodies. Most snakes do not exhibit parental care towards their eggs or offspring once they hatch or are born.

Species like boas, rattlesnakes, and garter snakes give birth to live young. At birth, these snake babies are enclosed in a thin membrane sac, similar to puppies. However, unlike puppies, snake babies possess an egg tooth that they use to break open the sac themselves and wriggle free. From that point forward, they are independent and fend for themselves.

There are only a couple of exceptions to this behavior, namely the King cobra and the African rock python. These snake mothers encircle their eggs to provide warmth and protection against predators until they hatch. However, even after hatching, the offspring are left to their own devices.

Snakes do not perceive the world in the same way humans do, so it is unlikely that they “see” and recognize their owners. However, once they become familiar with their surroundings and the people around them, they feel secure and can tolerate human interaction quite well. It’s important to note that snakes have individual personalities, and their level of tolerance may vary. If you were to place a snake outside on the ground, it would not “stay” with you or return to you once it crawls away, unless you happen to be the only warm object in the vicinity.
