Oh! Yes, a series of painful encounters in a matter of seconds.

I once received a call about a snake that had fallen into a well nearby. Since I was in the vicinity, I decided to respond to the call.

Arriving at the location, I observed that the well had a low water level. After shining my torch and assessing the situation, I identified the trapped snake as a juvenile Indian Rat Snake.

I attempted various standard rescue procedures, but unfortunately, they proved ineffective. With no other viable options, I made the decision to enter the well. I devised a plan, secured a rope around my waist, and descended the well using the surrounding steps.

A second rope was used to lower a snake bag down into the well. As I reached the bottom, I caught sight of the snake in a state of panic. Immediate action was necessary. It was within my reach, so I had no choice but to handle it with my bare hands.

As I attempted to transfer the snake into the bag, it became terrified, mistaking me for a predator. In a matter of seconds, it unleashed its full force of aggression. I felt a sensation akin to being pricked by countless tiny pins piercing my hand skin.

I had no option but to endure the attack, as withdrawing my hand could potentially harm the snake’s teeth or exacerbate the injury. Once the snake had satisfied itself, I carefully transferred it into the bag.

Such experiences are rare, and I don’t typically receive such affectionate “kisses.” I acknowledge that I may have made minor mistakes that contributed to the situation. However, it is through these experiences and the lessons learned that we grow and strive to avoid repeating them.
