Whales possess a remarkable ability to navigate during their long migrations along the Pacific coast. They communicate with each other, signaling their movements over thousands of miles. Humpback whales, in particular, have a unique characteristic in their brains—an inclusion of magnetic material that potentially aids in their navigation. This phenomenon, often referred to as animal magnetism, plays a role as whales annually migrate from Hawaii to the northern Pacific coast and make their return journey.

In addition to whales, various other animals rely on different navigation methods to find their way. Orientation by the sun is a common strategy used by many species. These animals utilize celestial cues, such as the position of the sun, to guide their path. However, this method also requires an internal clock as the sun moves across the sky. Among the creatures that employ sun compass orientation are fish, birds, sea turtles, butterflies, bees, sandhoppers, reptiles, and ants.

These incredible abilities of animal navigation have been explored and documented through scientific research, shedding light on the fascinating ways in which different species find their way in the world.
