I would like to clarify that grazing alone does not guarantee a reduced need for antibiotics. As a dairy farmer from Central CA, I can attest that even when our animals are on pasture, they are still susceptible to illnesses. Antibiotics are not only expensive but also have significant costs associated with their use. When a cow is undergoing antibiotic treatment, we are required by law to discard the milk, resulting in financial losses. Therefore, dairy farmers take various measures to ensure the well-being of our cows, such as providing clean bedding, fresh feed, and water, among other practices, in order to provide them with a healthy and comfortable environment.
