Here is how I would structure formal education from age 12 to 22:

    • Ages 12-14: This would be the first stage of secondary education, and it would focus on providing students with a broad foundation in the core subjects, such as English, mathematics, science, history, and social studies. Students would also have the opportunity to explore their interests through electives, such as art, music, and foreign language.
    • Ages 15-16: This would be the second stage of secondary education, and it would be a time for students to begin to specialize in their interests. Students would choose a specific academic track, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), humanities, or social sciences. They would also have the opportunity to participate in internships and apprenticeships to gain real-world experience.
    • Ages 17-18: This would be the third stage of secondary education, and it would be a time for students to prepare for college or university. Students would take rigorous academic courses and prepare for standardized tests. They would also have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, such as student government, debate team, or sports.
    • Ages 19-22: This would be the first stage of higher education, and it would be a time for students to further their education in their chosen field. Students would take college-level courses and conduct research. They would also have the opportunity to participate in internships and fellowships.

I believe that this structure would provide students with a well-rounded education that would prepare them for college, career, and life. It would also allow students to explore their interests and find their passion.

Here are some additional thoughts on how to structure formal education from age 12 to 22:

    • Make education more personalized. Students should be able to choose the courses that they want to take and the pace at which they want to learn.
    • Focus on critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These are the skills that will be most important in the 21st century workforce.
    • Incorporate more experiential learning. This means giving students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in the real world through internships, apprenticeships, and service learning.
    • Promote creativity and innovation. We need to teach students how to think outside the box and come up with new ideas.
    • Emphasize collaboration and teamwork. These are essential skills for working in the global economy.

I believe that these changes would make formal education more relevant and effective for students in the 21st century.
