It is highly irresponsible and dangerous to keep a domesticated lion as a pet, as demonstrated by the incident involving a man in Detroit who owned a 700-pound lion in his apartment. Domesticating a lion requires proper training and socialization, which involves teaching the cub how to express and receive affection and discipline in a human-like manner, rather than relying on lion instincts.

The example of the quadriplegic man from Detroit highlights the severe consequences that can arise when a lion does not understand the fragility of the human body. In this case, the lion playfully put its paw on the owner’s back to seek attention, unintentionally causing a catastrophic injury due to its sheer size and weight. It is crucial to teach lions how to behave safely around humans from a young age, as they grow into extremely large and powerful animals.

While humans have been taught to be gentle and considerate, the same cannot be assumed for lions. Accidents are more likely to occur if lions are not properly trained to understand human boundaries. As cubs, they must be taught how to behave appropriately to prevent accidental harm when they reach their adult size of 700 or 800 pounds. Teaching them to exhibit affection in a manner that aligns with human understanding is essential for the safety of both humans and the lions themselves.
