I’m thinking about travelling around Georgia next year for a few weeks. I’m thinking Atlanta and Savannah but I want to explore more of the countryside towns like Rome, Dublin, etc. Any thoughts will be welcomed on these places or others to explore?

Travelling around Georgia, USA, and exploring both Atlanta and Savannah, as well as the countryside towns, is a great idea. Here are some thoughts on the places you mentioned and a few additional recommendations:

    1. Atlanta: Known as the capital of Georgia, Atlanta offers a mix of history, culture, and modern attractions. Don’t miss the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the Atlanta History Center, the Georgia Aquarium, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. You can also explore the vibrant neighborhoods of Buckhead and Midtown, enjoy shopping and dining at Ponce City Market, and catch a sports game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
    2. Savannah: Savannah is a charming city with historic architecture, beautiful squares, and a lively riverfront. Take a stroll along River Street, visit Forsyth Park, explore the historic district with its Spanish moss-draped oak trees, and learn about Savannah’s history at the Telfair Museums and the Owens-Thomas House. Don’t forget to try the delicious Southern cuisine and take a ghost tour to uncover the city’s spooky stories.
    3. Rome: Rome, Georgia, is a picturesque town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It offers a scenic setting with outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and boating in the nearby rivers and lakes. Explore the historic downtown area with its unique shops, cafes, and art galleries. Visit the Rome Area History Museum to learn about the town’s past.
    4. Dublin: Dublin, Georgia, is a small town with a rich Irish heritage. One of the main attractions is the Dublin Laurens Museum, which showcases the history and culture of the region. Explore the downtown area with its Irish-themed shops and restaurants. If you’re visiting in March, don’t miss the Dublin Irish Festival, a lively celebration of Irish music, dance, and food.

Here are a few additional recommendations for countryside towns to explore in Georgia:

    • Helen: Nestled in the North Georgia Mountains, Helen is a charming alpine village known for its Bavarian-style architecture, scenic beauty, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
    • Blue Ridge: Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Blue Ridge offers a quaint downtown area, beautiful scenery, hiking trails, and the opportunity to ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.
    • Dahlonega: Known for its gold rush history, Dahlonega is a picturesque town with a historic square, art galleries, wineries, and access to hiking trails in the nearby Chattahoochee National Forest.
    • Madison: Dubbed as “The Prettiest Small Town in America,” Madison boasts well-preserved antebellum homes, charming shops, and a rich history.
    • Thomasville: Located in southwest Georgia, Thomasville is renowned for its beautiful Victorian architecture, plantations, and a vibrant arts scene.

These towns offer unique experiences, local charm, and opportunities to immerse yourself in Georgia’s natural beauty and rich history. Enjoy exploring the diverse landscapes, engaging with the local communities, and savoring the flavors of Southern hospitality during your trip!
