After reading the 2 answers on this question; i couldn’t help but smile & think to myself, is it that obvious to me because i am a girl?!!?? or am i just very naive that i am confident that the following was the reason Bhallaldeva asked Devasena to die with him:
Bhallaldeva was smitten by Devasena from the moment he saw her picture. Though there were incidents throughout the film depicting that he never really got over the crush/love/lust (whatever you want to call it!), but they were minor or not much highlighted.
For Example; when Bhallaldeva imprisons Devasena after her husband’s death, he says “.. tumhari nafrat ya pyar ke liye puri duniya main bas main hi bacha hun ..”
so here i understand, nafrat but why pyar????? (i wonder what was in Bhallaldeva’s head)
In another scene, he says, “.. mujhe itne salon se khushi mahismati ke sinhasan, sona, chandi, esho aram se nahi, devasena ko jakdti in bediyon se milti hai..”
Basically, he was obsessed with this one woman, who got away!!! He loved/lusted/was infatuated by her.(whatever you wanna call it!) When he couldn’t get her love, he hated her.. but throughout his life, he was always doing one or the other thing —either loving her or hating her.. & as they say; there is a thin line between love & hate!
& i feel during his last moments alive, Bhallaldeva still wanted Devasena to accompany him to afterlife, where he could either love or hate her.. 🙂
So, i would again ask the question; is it that obvious to me because i am a girl/weird?!!?? or am i just very naive/idiot to assume above was the reason!!!
