Planet Earth is situated in the Milky Way Galaxy. The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy, and it is the galaxy that our solar system, which includes Earth, belongs to. The Milky Way is estimated to be about 100,000 light-years in diameter and contains billions of stars, as well as other celestial objects such as planets, asteroids, and comets. Our solar system is located in one of the spiral arms of the Milky Way, known as the Orion Arm or Local Spur.
