No. While antivenom is available for many of the snakes that pose significant medical risks (in terms of frequent bites, injuries, and deaths), there are numerous species for which specific antivenom does not exist. Typically, these species either cause infrequent bites or are not known to cause severe harm or fatalities. These snakes are often found in poorly studied regions of the developing world.

In cases where direct antivenom is unavailable, alternative treatment options may still prove effective. These options include providing good supportive care such as ventilators, blood transfusions, and specific medications that can temporarily alleviate certain symptoms caused by venomous bites.

Another approach involves using antivenom that is designed to treat bites from a similar or closely related species, known as paraspecificity. This method can be highly effective or entirely ineffective, depending on the specific snake species involved. For instance, antivenom developed for East African Green Mambas may offer some benefit against bites from West African Green Mambas. However, attempting to treat an East African Green Mamba envenomation using West African Green Mamba antivenom does not appear to provide any advantage.

Nevertheless, receiving the appropriate dose of the correct antivenom at the right time remains the best chance of survival in the event of a severe snakebite.

It’s important to note that there are certain snakes, such as the twig snake, an African colubrid species, that can cause a fatal bleeding syndrome for which no antivenom currently exists. However, bites from these snakes are extremely rare.

Another example is the bush viper, another African species for which no antivenom is currently available. While bites from bush vipers are believed to be rare, there is limited data available, and further research is needed to fully understand the frequency of encounters and potential risks associated with them, particularly in Western and Central Africa.

I hope this information is helpful.
