Certain animals possess such charisma and striking predatory features that people often overlook the fact that some of their adaptations serve purposes other than hunting. The great white shark exemplifies such an animal. While its remarkable sensory capabilities are predominantly utilized for locating prey, they also play a vital role in avoiding potential threats like orcas. The shark’s heightened senses come into play when detecting the presence of orcas. Electroreceptors may help identify the electrical signals emitted by large enough animals, providing a cue for the sharks to steer clear. Additionally, they might possess the ability to recognize the scent or acoustic signals associated with orcas. It is likely a combination of these sensory inputs that guides the sharks to safety, ensuring they avoid potential encounters with their formidable predators.
