Hello, Serge. The Vaquitas, adorable tiny creatures belonging to the porpoise family, often go unnoticed compared to their larger counterparts.

In a departure from my usual perspective, I believe that providing a large ocean sanctuary for Vaquitas to breed, swim, feed, and mate could be a viable solution. With the support of dedicated biologists and conservationists, the sanctuary should be designed to be expansive, safe, and natural, ensuring that the Vaquitas feel comfortable and are well-nourished to encourage breeding.

Tragically, we have lost 20 Vaquitas since 2017, a mere six years ago. The inaction during this time indicates that they may face extinction by the end of 2025, a mere three years from now. The primary causes of their impending demise are overfishing by Mexico and the Vaquitas becoming bycatch in fishing nets, resulting in their drowning and subsequent discarding back into the ocean lifeless.

Relying solely on laws and governments for protection has proven ineffective. They have failed these beautiful creatures. As compassionate humans, we always strive for the best for Mother Nature’s animals. However, it is humans themselves who pose the problem.

Our country should consider imposing sanctions on Mexico, responsible for the loss of Vaquitas, as well as on China, known for its poaching, torturing, and endangering countless animals, and Japan and Denmark for not adhering to the 1988 ban on whale hunting established by the IWC. There are many more nations that need to be held accountable. Humans are often preoccupied with animosity towards one another, planning the downfall of politicians or seeking to seize power. Each time we lose a species, we bring ourselves one step closer to our own demise.

Every day, we witness the loss of 150 species, encompassing plants, insects, birds, mammals, and marine life. The Great Barrier Reef, once a thriving ecosystem, has been decimated within a few short years due to climate change and human pollution. Has Australia taken effective action to halt this destruction? No.

It is imperative to ban single-use water bottles or enforce deposit systems in every state. There is no valid reason for humans to continue purchasing case after case of bottled water, unless in response to a hazardous incident. We owe gratitude to those who have taken steps to make a difference. However, there are still far too many apathetic individuals who contribute to the ruin of our planet. Without meaningful changes and an end to climate change, our oceans may be devoid of life by 2048. That’s a mere 25 years away, so it is crucial for humanity to awaken and take action. Otherwise, Mother Nature will continue to unleash her wrath, unable to distinguish between those responsible and the innocent. We will all bear the consequences.
