Here are some of my favorites. They are not in any particular order except for the one they came to mind in.

1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Drama- If you’ve ever experienced heartbreak, you have to see this (unless it happened recently, in which case you might want to avoid it for now). If you haven’t been there before, this film will show you what you’ve been missing.
2. Resevoir Dogs, Crime/Thriller
3. American Beauty, Drama- Kind of dark, a bit too real. Kevin Spacey plays a suburban dad that struggles to find satisfaction within the confines of his cookie-cutter existence.
4. Boogie Nights, Drama
5. Things We Lost in the Fire, Drama
6. Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, Documentary- Keep a box of tissues nearby.
7. Hoop Dreams, Documentary
8. Punch-Drunk Love, Dark Comedy/Drama- you’ll really get a sense of who Adam Sandler used to be. It’ll almost make you forget about Pixels.
9. Short Term 12, Drama
10. Amelie, Comedy/Romance
11. Chasing Amy and Clerks, Comedy- Kevin Smith.
12. The Usual Suspects, Crime/Drama
13. Trainspotting, Drama- A lot of internet things will finally make sense after you’ve watched this.
14. Y Tu Mama Tambien, Adventure/Comedy/Drama- Mexican film that features Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna as best friends on a journey to help their mutual crush find herself.
15. Blue Valentine, Drama/Romance
16. Ira and Abby, Comedy/Romance
17. A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, Drama/Sci-Fi- Stanley Kubrick was a genius. These films will all have you spinning for at least a week.
18. Fish Tank, Drama
19. Primer, Drama/Thriller- This film will take you down a rabbit hole that you might never get out of. There are multiple blogs dedicated to mapping out its events. Intense.
20. The One I Love, Drama/Romance
