When my mother became elderly and unwell, she expressed her desire to move in with me. However, she insisted that my dog would have to be removed from the equation. In a hurtful moment, my mother claimed that I loved the dog more than her. It was a manipulative and unfair statement, one that ironically only became untrue at that very moment.
