Astronauts wear specialized clothing known as spacesuits, also called Extravehicular Mobility Units (EMUs), when they venture outside their spacecraft for spacewalks or Extra-Vehicular Activities (EVAs).

Spacesuits are designed to provide a sealed environment that protects astronauts from the vacuum of space and extreme temperatures, and also provides them with oxygen to breathe. They consist of several layers of materials such as high-strength fibers, neoprene-coated nylon, and Mylar. The suits also have a helmet with a built-in ventilation system and a visor that protects the astronaut’s face from harmful radiation and micrometeoroids.
