I recently flew with my cat using a carry-on, and I have done so multiple times before. While the specific needs of cats may vary, here is a general list of essentials:

An appropriately sized carrier in good condition.

Pee pads placed inside the carrier to absorb any toileting accidents, along with spare pads for emergencies.

A harness or mesh laundry bag to secure the kitty during the security check.

Treats that your cat loves, particularly useful during takeoff and landing to help alleviate any discomfort in their ears.

A used shirt or item of clothing that carries the scent of their favorite human, providing comfort and a familiar smell.

Any required paperwork from the airline or destination country if you’re flying internationally.

A responsible adult accompanying the cat, as their ticket should be paired with a human traveler.

I do not recommend sedating the cat, as they may wake up in an unfamiliar, loud, and potentially scary environment, causing distress and anxiety.
