There are two sets of formal education requirements for the PMP certification:

    • For candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent:
      • 60 months of project management experience within the past 8 years.
      • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® certification.
    • For candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent:
      • 36 months of project management experience within the past 8 years.
      • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® certification.

The project management education/training must be from an accredited institution and must cover the following topics:

    • Project Integration Management: This includes topics such as project charters, scope management, and change management.
    • Project Scope Management: This includes topics such as requirements gathering, scope definition, and scope verification.
    • Project Time Management: This includes topics such as activity definition, activity sequencing, and scheduling.
    • Project Cost Management: This includes topics such as cost estimation, budgeting, and cost control.
    • Project Quality Management: This includes topics such as quality planning, quality assurance, and quality control.
    • Project Human Resource Management: This includes topics such as team building, leadership, and motivation.
    • Project Communication Management: This includes topics such as communication planning, information distribution, and conflict resolution.
    • Project Risk Management: This includes topics such as risk identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation.
    • Project Procurement Management: This includes topics such as procurement planning, supplier selection, and contract management.

The Project Management Institute (PMI) offers a variety of courses that meet the formal education requirements for the PMP certification. These courses can be taken online or in person.

In addition to the formal education requirements, candidates for the PMP certification must also have at least 3 years of project management experience. This experience must include leading and directing projects.

The PMP certification is a valuable credential for project managers. It demonstrates that you have the knowledge and experience to manage projects effectively. If you are interested in becoming a project manager, the PMP certification is a great way to demonstrate your skills and knowledge.
