In the Idaho area, it is common practice to salvage the meat from a deer that has been killed by a car, and this is completely legal under the Roadkill & Salvage regulations.

A couple of years ago, while I was out cycling, I witnessed a pickup truck colliding with a deer. I immediately checked on the driver to ensure their safety, and although the truck’s grille was damaged, the driver was unharmed. During this time, another individual arrived at the scene and inquired if the driver wanted the deer. Upon learning that the driver did not want it, the person promptly loaded the carcass into their pickup and drove away. It was a fortunate opportunity to obtain fresh venison!
