“The Autumn Stone” by The Small Faces. Steve Marriott states in the lyrics, “that I was nowhere until you changed my mind”. The lyrics simply indicate that he was going in one direction, but he didn’t realize where he was, until he found who he had been looking for. From a band like the Small Faces, this particular love song is rare for them ,because of how fast paced most their songs were. This is one of their most beautifully written songs, that implies a deeper meaning. The reason as to why the song is overlooked is mainly because of the group not being as popular in the United States. Many people claim that Eric Clapton wrote the greatest love song “Layla”, but in my opinion the Small Faces “The Autumn Stone”, is just as beautiful if not better.
