I have seen many great movies about WWII and there are a bunch I haven’t seen. I can just share the ones I like.
The best intro of any movie I’ve seen was the kick-start of Patton. Gritty, guttural and immovable, Patton was introduced and we knew we were in for a rocky ride. I saw the movie when It came out and read the book Patton just before a short stint in the Army.
Bridge On the River Kwai. A memorable film, the song still gets stuck in my mind. The performances were excellent.
Battleground was a 1949 black and white film that followed a squad through the Battle of the Bulge. Cigar-chewing James Whitmore gave a wonderful performance.
Mrs. Miniver won 6 Academy Awards in 1942 and is a movie loved by many of us older folks and for lots of good reasons. It has a short and really different presentation when it comes to Dunkirk.
Of course, Saving Private Ryan and Schindler’s List are amazing movies.
