Well, music is universal. The entire world music is popping out of those 7 basic notes. What’s the difference? Well the difference is because of the cultural backgrounds and evolution. For example South Indian Carnatic classical music is more of devotional and thier systems have evolved in a certain way through thier own understanding of music. Thier raagas were outpouring of devotion towards thier deities. Hindustaani music has Persian influences and though it was initially devotional, it picked up other influences and Darbar singing (singing in the courts of kings) became a norm. So many of the compositions were made to describe the beauty of love or praising the beloved as kings wanted to dedicate such songs to thier queens.

Coming to your question, I wanted to give a brief idea about both the forms because these are the foundations for all these musicians. For example, Hariharan had the influence of both Carnatic and Hindustani while Nusrat Saab had the influence of Quawali and Hindustani music. Kishore Kumarbor Arijit Singh are different because they are playback singers. They sang whatever composers had intended them to mostly but had Indian music roots coz may be it runs in them and it reflects in thier voice and singing style. Nusrat Saab and Atif aslam expressed their own music. Even Sonu nigam and Arijit have done independent music but they are known mostly for thier film music. And Indian film music has Indian roots and pakistani music has pakistani roots and it’s beautiful. A.R Rahman keeping his indian roots did an amalgamation of world music. He’s one of a kind. He did many experiments and it worked. He used Carnatic and also Quawali in his songs.
