House Martins choose to nest in the soffits of my local yacht club situated on the East Essex Coast in the UK. They either utilize existing nests or construct new ones using mud. These nests take the form of a meticulously shaped mud ball, expertly crafted from the marsh mud collected during low tide. The surrounding marshes serve as feeding grounds for wading birds like Avocets and Lapwings. House Martins migrate from Africa and typically arrive in April. Once they grace us with their presence, they captivate us with their impressive aerial acrobatics as they skillfully capture airborne plankton, including flies and mosquitoes. On one occasion during inclement weather, an old nest fell onto the decking, revealing its impeccable feather lining.
