My dog belongs to a breed that is widely considered to be extremely dangerous. In fact, in my country, it is illegal to own this breed without a special training certificate. I have a Tosa Inu, which is a Japanese fighting dog. He weighs around 180 pounds (80-85 kg).

The Tosa Inu is banned in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Cyprus, Denmark, Iceland, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, and Turkey. These countries have taken such measures to address the issue of dog attacks on humans, particularly children, as the government believes that Tosas are specifically bred for fighting (source: Tosa (dog)).

However, despite the reputation of this breed, my dog has never shown any aggression towards anyone. I can even put my hands into his food to add treats, and he carefully avoids my fingers. Although he dislikes being washed, he remains patient and never growls or tries to move. During our walks, he pays no attention to smaller dogs, no matter how hard they try to get his attention. Even if other dogs bark aggressively, he simply glances at them and continues walking, as if they were just trees he has already marked. Moreover, if someone enters my property with my permission and my dog recognizes them as a safe person, he doesn’t even bark or show any concern.

I firmly believe that the size of a dog or its breed is not the determining factor in its behavior. Every dog can be safe and well-behaved if they are treated with love and receive adequate attention. A dog’s behavior reflects the love and care they receive from their owners. In my experience, a dog reciprocates the love it receives and forms one of the most honest and loyal friendships one can ever have.
