I’m a huge John Mayer fan, i’ve listened to his music since I was seven. Everything about his music just speaks to me. Going through hardships, having existential crisises, being in love, being out of love, etc. That being said, it’s too hard for me to pick out just one song, so i’m going to get greedy. I’m going to pick my favorite John Mayer song from each album he’s ever released, as well as my favorite unreleased song/s as well. So here we go. This might be a bit long.
Inside Wants Out EP
My favorite song off this one has to be Quiet. It has such a chill and has some really nice chord changes as well (runner ups are Comfortable, Back to You, and Love Soon)
Room For Squares
There are so many hits on this record but I have to go with No Such Thing (runner ups are Neon, Great Indoors, and City Love)
Any Given Thursday
John’s first live album. My favorite song off this record is definitely the live version of Back to You (Runner up is Neon)
Heavier Things
This record is in my top three. My favorite song has to be Wheel. It’s just so beautiful to me. It’s deep, jazzy, and has a killer guitar solo. (runner ups are Something’s Missing, Only Heart, and Clarity)
As Is
Covered in Rain live in Philadelphia PA, and Hartford CT. Nuff said.
Continuum
This was a career defining album which deserves all the credit it gets. Honestly anything off of this record is an A+. Except I think Dreaming With a Broken Heart feels more like a song on Battle Studies, still super good though.
Where the Light Is
Acoustic: In Your Atmosphere
Trio: Who did You Think I Was
Full Band: I Don’t Trust Myself With Loving You
Battle Studies
This record deserves more credit. There was some great stuff, and watching him evolve was really fun at this point. Favorite song has to be Assassin (runner up Do You Know Me)
Born and Raised
I’ve never been enthusiastic about John’s folk/country side, but it’s still great music. Favorite song has to If I Ever Get Around to Living.
Paradise Valley
I really liked his sound at this point. His live band was also really good. Favorite song off this record has to be I Will be Found (runner ups Wildfire, Paper Doll)
The Search For Everything
I was shocked when Love on The Weekend came out. I didn’t expect anything but I was slightly disappointed at the direction he was going in. Neverthless, when the full album came out I was super hyped. My favorite song has to be Rosie. Hands down the best song on the album. Changing is a close second.
Unreleased Songs
Sucker, Outside in The Underground (Lo Fi Masters) Color Queen, Sky Blues, This Will All Make Perfect Sense Someday, Lifelines, The Hotel Bathroom song, Tracing, Level.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading!
**EDIT**
I just read this over again and I realized that I totally forgot about the trio album “TRY.” Also New Light came out as well.
TRY
Absolutely genius album. I remember hearing this album and being like, “WE NEED A TRIO ALBUM” Steve Jordan’s crazy powerful soulful drum skills, Pino Palladino’s cool, technical groovy basslines, and John absolutely tearing it on in guitar. Favorite songs are Another kind of Green, I’ve Got a Woman, Try, and Daughters.
New Light
It’s vibey, groovy, and it’s been my summer jam. It’s pop, radio stuff, not much too it. The bridge is funky as heck. I give it a 8/10
