Bulleya (with the talented Shilpa Rao) from the movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Apparently this song is a Sufi love song. To my ear it sounds like a power ballad, or one of those stunning action movie soundtrack hits that Indian cinema produces with impressive frequency. There’s nothing like this genre of music for inspiration during one’s choice of exercise regime, a dull commute to work or dreary housework duties. How long has it been since Hollywood gave us music like this? 30 years?

I also love Arijit Singh’s more gentle and romantic music tracks such as Janam Janam, the Kalank title track, Ki Honda Pyaar, Gerua, the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil title track and Channa Mereya, but they aren’t as much help when faced with a steep hill and an overloaded bicycle.
