I can’t believe that no one said this… but “Delilah”.
I absolutely hate this song and it pains me to say this since Queen is one of my favorite bands, if not my favorite… but there is nothing good about this song.
It’s about Freddie’s cat. And that’s not really an issue, “All Dead, All Dead” was, in theory, about Brian May’s cat and that’s a decent song. But “Delilah”…. I could have lived my whole life without hearing “you make me slightly mad when you pee all over my Chippendale suite”.
No.
Plus, Freddie meows AND Brian May makes his guitar sound like meowing. It’s just not a song anyone needed. It’s not musically or lyrically interesting and it’s kind of cringeworthy.
Maybe I don’t get it because I’m not really a cat person. I don’t know. I just think it was a waste of time for them, but I’m willing to forgive its existence since Freddie really did love that cat and he was really sick at the point of recording. I just won’t be listening to it.
As for other contenders: “Don’t Lose Your Head” (INXS has a much better song by the same title) and “Coming Soon” don’t really do anything for me. They’re not bad songs but they are kind of misses. However, contrary to how most Queen fans think, I really don’t mind Hot Space, in fact I genuinely enjoy most songs on the album, especially “Staying Power”, “Under Pressure” and “Back Chat”. I feel like they don’t necessarily have an album that would be classified as the weakest, at least not for me, since all the albums have gems on them. Some are better than others (neither Sheer Heart Attack or News of the World have a bad song on them) while others do have their weak spots, but come on, it’s Queen. They gave us “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “You Take My Breath Away” and “My Melancholy Blues”. I can grant them a few bad songs and the right to screw around in the studio and record a love letter to a cat (without judging them too much).
