I can’t say about Happy New Year as I have not seen it.

I hated Chennai Express. The mockery of Tamilians is true for most cases. But the film was a disgrace to Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka. The director is south indian and he encourages all this. Lead actress is south indian and encourages all this.

What was worse in this film was the idea given in one of the scenes that people who speak Tamil are indians. So Bengalis, Malayalis, Maharashtrians and Punjabis are not Indian? That’s pretty insulting to me as I am a north indian. But then, most Tamil people hate Hindi and are against North Indians and are racist to the culture and the people, protest against Hindi being the national language, where the language binds different Indian groups together to communicate with each other. Even teluguites, mallus, kannadigas and mangaloreans have no problem in communicating in Hindi and do not force their culture on people, unlike most Tamilians. This was what pissed me off.

Plus, at least 50% of the film was in Tamil. I mean, it is a Bollywood film but why make half of the film in Tamil? I felt uncomfortable and left out and think that it should have been a Tamil film only, instead of a Hindi film. You see The Dirty Picture, though it was set in South India, the director made sure that the audience would be able to feel comfortable by not adding too many Tamil dialogues or the North Indian audience will feel left out as we do not know the language.

Even Baaghi for instance, was set in Kerala, South India. The villain is a South Indian character, but did not make him speak in that stereotypical South Indian accent, but made him an Urban South Indian character. Plus, the essence of Kerala and South Indian culture in the film made me love South India more as compared to Chennai Express.

Plus, the film was not funny at all. It was inspired from 2003 Telugu film Okkadu… It was shit as a whole and I am shocked at the insult of North Indians not being acknowledged as Indians in the film.

Dilwale on the other hand, even though there was a South Indian character portrayed by Johnny Lever, was someone adaptable to the Goa culture and North Indians. Even though his character had a Tamil accent, I did not feel offended as he did not use any tamil dialogues and made audiences uncomfortable.

People say its stupid. But I definitely prefer this film over that racist Chennai Express because the film has characters of different Indian ethnic backgrounds and embraces it. Plus, it’s a lot funnier than Chennai Express.

You would feel insulted while watching Chennai Express, especially if you are a Malayali. Half of Kerala’s culture is used to represent Tamilians, which is disgusting. Why use one culture to represent another?? Disgrace the film was to Malayalis and North Indians!

Just go for Dilwale. Characters are more diverse ethnically, amazing songs, SRK-KAJOL jodi is love AND mostly, it is in Hindi!
