The Andromeda Galaxy is slightly larger than the Milky Way Galaxy. The Andromeda Galaxy has a diameter of about 220,000 light-years, while the Milky Way Galaxy has a diameter of about 150,000 light-years. However, the Milky Way Galaxy is more massive than the Andromeda Galaxy, with about 1.5 trillion stars compared to the Andromeda Galaxy’s estimated 1 trillion stars.
The Andromeda Galaxy is also closer to Earth than the Milky Way Galaxy. The Andromeda Galaxy is about 2.5 million light-years away, while the Milky Way Galaxy is about 100,000 light-years away.
In about 4 billion years, the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way Galaxy are expected to collide and merge into a single galaxy. This event is known as the Great Galactic Collision.
