After the film’s release in theatres, the hashtag #baahubaliorponniyinselvan was trending on Twitter and other social media platforms. Though the movie makers and the cast of the film had already requested the fans to not compare the film with any other historical movie as it was done with a different idea, storyline and pace, fans took a step over to compare the film with other historical films.

‘ and reportedly stated that the film had copied many sequences from ‘Baahubali’, which irked the novel fans. Sharing the pictures from novel, fans in Tamil Nadu are denoting that ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is based on a real event though it is based in a historical novel. However, a few other netizens shared poster from ‘Baahubali’ and compared it along with ‘Ponniyin Selvan book’ and indirectly pointed out that ‘Baahubali’ had parts of it taken from the book.
