Note: Spoilers Ahead
In the 2006 film “The Departed,” Colin (played by Matt Damon) emerges as the central antagonist, responsible for the deaths of numerous characters throughout the story.
Firstly, he kills the Police Captain who was investigating a spy within their team, unbeknownst to the others that the spy was Colin himself. The Police Captain played a significant role in the movie.
Furthermore, he eliminates the main villain who had raised him to be both a cop and an undercover criminal and spy.
Towards the climax, when the protagonist (portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio) uncovers the truth and apprehends Colin, it brings a sense of satisfaction, knowing that justice is served.
However, Colin manages to kill him or, at the very least, orchestrates his demise, showcasing his ruthless nature even towards someone who had recently aided him.
Colin’s actions extend to eliminating almost all of the major players in the movie, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
But the ultimate moment of satisfaction comes when Sergeant Dignam, the right-hand man of the previously slain Police Captain, shoots Colin, delivering the long-awaited retribution.
This scene, along with the entire film, provides a deeply gratifying experience for the audience. It’s worth noting that the movie doesn’t conclude with a cliffhanger, allowing for a sense of closure.
